Dense fog is set to cause travel disruption across parts of the UK, with possible flights cancellations and drivers facing slower journeys, the Met Office said

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for fog, with flights at risk of being grounded and travel disruption expected across parts of the UK this weekend.

The warning, in place from midnight on Sunday until 10am, covers parts of the Midlands, London, the South East and South West. Visibility could fall to just 50m in some areas.

Patchy, dense fog is expected to develop late on Saturday before becoming "increasingly widespread" during the second half of the night.

Thick fog can bring flights to a standstill by dramatically reducing visibilty around airports, making it difficult for pilots to land and take off.
