Of course, we don’t know the full circumstances surrounding Meghan’s estrangement from her father, and nor should we pretend to, because serious allegations must be investigated properly, not dissected through speculation or treated as established fact.

But one thing I firmly believe is that we should never be so blinded by our opinions of someone that we forget their right to protect their children, and whatever you think of Meghan Markle, that principle should never be up for debate.

Forget everything else for a moment, because whether you love or loathe the way Meghan Markle, 45, and Prince Harry, 42, have handled their departure from royal life, this is an entirely separate matter that deserves to be treated as such.
