Carl Bates is on track to be the first MP to be re-elected in Whanganui since 2014.

With 47.7% of the vote counted, the National Party MP leads by 3563 votes over Labour’s Angela Roberts.

NZ First’s Harete Hipango-Brownline is third but as it stands, the former Whanganui MP would make a return to Parliament as a List MP at number seven on her party’s list.
