A-League Men leaders Wellington have drawn 0-0 with defending champions Auckland FC, claiming their first point in seven attempts against their fierce rivals.

Wellington have claimed their first point against Auckland FC, holding on desperately for a 0-0 derby draw to maintain a handy buffer at the top of the A-League Men table.

The unbeaten Phoenix were chasing their first win in their seventh derby, having lost the previous six clashes.

It was the first time Wellington entered the derby ahead of Auckland on the table and Chris Greenacre's team will head into the international break as league leaders.

"Actually pretty disappointed to be honest," Wellington skipper Alex Rufer told Sky Sport NZ.
