Exercise heightened vigilance: US warns Americans in Middle East amid Houthi attacks

详细摘要

The advisory comes amid Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, with the Saudi-led coalition saying it intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile headed towards Riyadh on Saturday. The Houthis have targeted Saudi energy facilities, airports and other sites as the US-Iran war has expanded across the region.

The United States has issued an advisory warning Americans in the Middle East of an increased threat of attacks by Iran-backed Houthis, along with possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions.

“Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance due to the increased threat of armed attacks by Iranian-supported Houthis and Iranian efforts to target US government officials in the region,” the State Department said.

It advised Americans travelling to or from the region to monitor airport and airline operations and prepare contingency plans. Iran and groups supporting it could also target US interests elsewhere, including American businesses, institutions and locations associated with US citizens, the department warned.
