Detailed summary

As we head closer towards the end of the year, there's one lawn task gardeners recommend carrying on with that many may have stopped.

November is the perfect time of year to start thinking about lawn care for the winter season. It’s too late to sow lawn seeds; however, there is a simple task that gardeners can be doing, at least for the first half of November.

Sharing his top 10 gardening jobs for November, gardener and owner of Sutton Manor Nursery, William Mitchell, has urged gardeners to “continue to mow the lawn”. He said, “You would not be alone in thinking that lawns do not grow over the colder months. However, you would be wrong.

William pointed out, “Letting your lawn grow to a height beyond three inches is where problems may occur; this is because at this height the grass will struggle to hold itself up.

“It will then begin to droop onto the surrounding grass and smother it. This can cause the moisture to be trapped, which can result in diseases spreading and fungi.”
