Qatar's prime minister says the country continues to work to find a settlement in the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran.

Qatar's mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are continuing to try to prevent the situation spiralling out of control, the country's prime minister says.

In reporting by Al Jazeera TV, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani says the US administration remains willing to find a solution even after the midterm elections, signalling that Washington's interest in reaching an agreement has not changed.

Significant progress has been made and Al-Thani expressed confidence that a settlement can be reached.

"We cannot wait to reach a perfect agreement. We hope to reach a good agreement," he said.
