Résumé détaillé

Monthly income sounds simple until the check shrinks or stops entirely. Three ETFs have kept paying through a pandemic crash and a brutal rate shock, but their track records reveal some unsettling gaps worth knowing before you depend on any of them.

Retirement ends the paycheck. The bills keep coming every month. For a retiree who needs income on that schedule, the most useful thing to know about a monthly-paying ETF is whether the check has kept arriving through bad markets as well as good ones. The three funds below have paid monthly for at least a decade, a stretch that ran through the 2020 pandemic crash and the 2022 rate shock.

Each fund gets its income from a different source: preferred securities, U.S. dividend stocks and global high yielders. A long streak is not a promise. Past payments do not guarantee future ones. (If a monthly payment schedule is what you are after, we rounded up seven of our favorite monthly payers in a free report here.)

iShares Preferred and Income Securities ETF (NASDAQ:PFF) has monthly ex-dividend records going back to 2007, and every year from 2010 through 2025 shows regular monthly payouts.
